§ 49. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that there is no apparatus in the island of Malta for measuring radioactivity; and, in view of recent evidence that there is a danger of radioactive sand blowing from the Sahara, if he will take steps to see that such apparatus is provided on the island.
§ Mr. AlportThere is in fact apparatus in Malta which is able to detect significant amounts of radioactive fall-out, but it is not suitable for measuring the very small amounts of radioactivity which might occur in sand blown from the Sahara. I am consulting the Governor about the future measuring of such radioactive fall-out as may reach Malta.
