HC Deb 29 March 1960 vol 620 cc104-5W
40. Mr. Callaghan

asked the Prime Minister what reply he sent to the assurances sought by the Prime Minister of South Africa before he accepted the invitation to attend the Commonwealth Prime Ministers Conference.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I have been asked to reply.

As my right hon. Friend informed the House on 24th March, the Prime Minister of South Africa recently inquired whether there would be an opportunity while he was in London to discuss certain subjects of concern to both our Governments. My right hon. Friend assured him that arrangements could be made for discussions to be held on these subjects either at full meetings or at smaller meetings.
