§ LORD TAYLORasked Her Majesty's Government to show in a table how the 147 consultants who retired between July 1, 1958, and June 30, 1959, were divided, using the specialities set out in Table 25 (pp. 76–77) of Cmnd. 939, and the numbers in each speciality in receipt of merit awards.
LORD ST. OSWALDAn undertaking has been given to the profession that the names of individual award holders should not be published. The undesirability of so doing was accepted unreservedly by the Royal Commission on Doctors' and Dentists' Pay in paragraph 226 of Cmnd. 939 when deciding to publish in their Report the comprehensive Tables referred to by the noble Lord. The information requested by the noble Lord in the form he suggests would, however, reveal the award position of individual consultants and in the circumstances Her Majesty's Government regret that they do not feel able to provide it.
