asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement about his inquiries into the practice of individual resale price maintenance.

Investigation has shown that the information available to the Board of Trade is insufficient to enable me to form any firm conclusions at present about the extent and effects of the practice of individual resale price maintenance.

I have, therefore, decided to institute a fact-finding inquiry into this subject. An announcement will shortly be made inviting interested organisations and individuals to send written evidence to my Department. Such evidence may, as necessary, be clarified or supplemented by oral evidence.

In order to permit the greatest possible freedom in the expression of views, the inquiry will be confidential.
