§ Mr. Sydney Irvingasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will state the date from which the ban on the sale of Preludin and the twenty other substances listed by the Poisons Board except by medical prescriptions will become effective.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerAfter considering representations, I have decided to ask the Poisons Board to reconsider the scope of its recommendation with respect to guaiphenesin. My information is that this substance is not at present available in this country in any preparation that is liable to abuse.
I have also decided that no further control is necessary in respect of nialamide, which is already subject, under the Therapeutic Substances Act, 1956, to substantially the same degree of control as that recommended by the Poisons Board.
With these exceptions, I hope to put into effect, from the beginning of next month, the recommendation of the Poisons Board relating to the substances mentioned in my Answer to a Question by the hon. Member for Dartford (Mr. Sydney Irving) on 11th February.
