§ 85. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that the conflict in Algeria has been going on for six years with numerous deaths on both sides, and that the breakdown in recent negotiations indicates an indefinite continuation unless some outside power intervenes in an endeavour to achieve a settlement; and if he will take immediate steps to place this matter on the agenda of the next meeting of the Assembly of the United Nations Organisation, in order that it may use its good offices and prestige to bring the contestants together again and to assist in any negotiations if required.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydI am not prepared to accept the hon. Member's assumptions. Nor do I think it would be helpful for Her Majesty's Government to adopt the hon. Member's suggestion.
