§ 46. Mr. A. Pearsonasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that routine sampling and analysis of local stocks of frozen Dutch egg white at Pontypridd has disclosed that several of the samples were infected with food poisoning organisms of the type which caused the recent serious outbreak of food poisoning among school children at Pontyclun; and whether he will take steps to make it compulsory for the importation of frozen egg white to be heat treated prior to import into this country.
§ Miss PittYes. The Ministry recently gathered together a group of persons with special knowledge to examine ways of overcoming the technical difficulties of producing acceptable pasteurised egg products, including egg whites, on a commercial basis. Until these have been overcome it would be premature to consider making heat treatment compulsory.
