HC Deb 04 March 1960 vol 618 cc178-9W
Mr. L. M. Lever

asked the Minister of Health if he will explain the present composition, status and contacts of the Department of Research and Experiment at Roehampton; and what proposals he has, in view of the widespread disappointment amongst limb wearers, for extending the scope and reinforcing the instruments of research in this field.

Miss Pitt

The staff of the research department are responsible to the Ministry's Chief Medical Officer and consist of a senior medical officer, a medical officer and an engineer, with assistant technical staff. They are closely associated with many organisations in this country and abroad, including international organisations, which are concerned with development of prostheses or which can help them with advice on technical problems. The work of the research department is guided by a committee which includes the Deans of the Institute of Orthopaedics and of the City and Guilds School of Engineering and the scope of its work is constantly being extended.
