HC Deb 29 June 1960 vol 625 cc128-9W
Mr. E. Johnson

asked the Minister of Transport how many road accidents involving loss of life or personal injuries have occurred during 12 months, to the latest convenient date, due to the driver of one of the vehicles concerned failing to indicate that he was going to turn or stop; and in how many cases that vehicle was not fitted with braking and direction indicator signals.

Mr. Marples

In the twelve months ended 31st March, 1960, 1,403 accidents involving death or serious injury were reported by the police as having involved a driver who failed to signal his intention to turn or stop. Such information is not reported in the case of slight accidents. Accident reports do not normally indicate whether vehicles were fitted with braking and/or direction indicator signals.

Mr. E. Johnson

asked the Minister of Transport how many accidents involving loss of life and personal injuries occurred during the year 1959, between 1st January, 1960, and 1st June, 1960, and from 3rd June to 7th June, 1960, respectively, all inclusive, on the main road between Altrincham and Lostock Gralam and on the main road between the western end of the Northwich bypass and Chester, respectively; and what were the corresponding figures for the Northwich by-pass.
