§ 105. Captain Pilkingtonasked the Minister of Works what steps he is taking to safeguard the Roman Wall in Northumberland against the present threat of converting part of it into a quarry.
§ Mr. H. NichollsThe area affected by the present proposal for quarrying is protected under the Roman Wall Preservation Scheme, made under the Ancient Monuments Acts. Under this Scheme any extension of quarrying would require my right hon. Friend's consent, and he has very much in mind the importance of the Wall and its ancillary structures.
