§ 80. Mr. Stonehouseasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action the Government of Fiji is taking to secure the commercial disposal of the sugar crop at a fair price to cane growers.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodThe commercial disposal of the sugar crop has previously been determined by a long-term contract between the cane growers and the Colonial Sugar Refining Company. This contract expired on 31st May, 1960, and its renewal is at present in dispute. The Government of Fiji is continuing its efforts to bring about a settlement of this dispute, of which I informed the House on 21st June in my reply to the hon. Member for Eton and Slough (Mr. Brockway).
