asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the action of the Metropolitan Police at the demonstration held in Trafalgar Square on South Africa Freedom Day, 26th June.

I am informed by the Commissioner of Police that when attempts were made to interrupt a meeting in Trafalgar Square and a poster parade around South Africa House and54W fighting broke out, fifteen persons were arrested. The meeting and the parade then continued. The police required those taking part in the parade to disperse before the meeting ended so as to prevent further disorder.
