§ Lord John HopeMy Ministry has made extensive use of its powers to excavate historic sites before they are built on and although there are no statutory powers regarding movable archaeological finds, it has generally been possible to reach satisfactory agree-18W ments about their disposal. Finds which are not associated with a monument lie outside my Ministry's responsibilities.
