HC Deb 26 February 1960 vol 618 c93W
Mr. Percival

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement as to the bringing into force of Sections 21 to 23 of the Legal Aid and Advice Act, 1949.

Mr. R. A. Butler

After consultation with those concerned I have made an Order bringing into force Sections 21 to 23 of the Legal Aid and Advice Act, 1949, on 14th March, 1960. I have also made new sets of rules and regulations prescribing scales of payment to counsel and solicitors who give legal aid in criminal cases in the various courts. These will take effect in respect of certificates granted, or defences undertaken at the request of a judge or chairman of a court, on and after 14th March, 1960. Copies of the various instruments are available in the Library.
