HC Deb 09 February 1960 vol 617 cc30-1W
Dr. Broughton

asked the President of the Board of Trade what stage has now been reached in the negotiations with the Government of the United States of America for the purpose of raising the quota of woollen textiles imported into the United States of America from the United Kingdom.

Mr. Maudling

The United States Government have obtained the consent of the Contracting Parties of the G.A.T.T. to renegotiate the tariff quota arrangements and are now conducting the necessary domestic preliminary inquiries. These include investigations by the Tariff Commission and the Committee for Reciprocity Information, which started on 1st December and have not yet been completed.
