HC Deb 09 February 1960 vol 617 c34W
Captain Kerby

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty why no reference is made in the official history of the war at sea, by Captain Roskill, to the loss of H.M.S. "Peterel" in her action against overwhelming Japanese forces at Shanghai on 7th December, 1941.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

The purpose of the official histories is to provide a broad survey of events during the war; and it would be outside their scope to give details of every operation. An appendix to the last volume of "The War at Sea" will, however, contain a list of all major warships lost.
