HC Deb 09 February 1960 vol 617 c15W
13. Mr. MacColl

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware that some local authorities are making it a condition of advances for house purchase that the property be insured with a nominated company; and how many schemes containing such conditions he has approved.

Sir K. Joseph

The Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts require that where advances are made the house shall be kept insured against fire to the satisfaction of the local authority, and my right hon. Friend has no power of control. Conditions made under Section 43 Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1958, however, are subject to his approval. No such condition has been approved recently.
