HC Deb 09 February 1960 vol 617 c20W
Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he accepts the recommendations of the Wild Committee that Uganda should have elections to the National Assembly on the basis of universal adult suffrage; and when they will be implemented.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The recommendations of the Constitutional Committee on the next constitutional step to be taken in Uganda have been considered. The Governor will, I hope, be giving an indication to Her Majesty's Government's views on some of the Committee's recommendations in his address from the Chair to the Legislative Council, which meets on 22nd February and which will debate the Committee's Report.
