§ 59. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in view of the importance of promoting the change in the Aberdeen fishing fleet from coal to oil and diesel engines, what improvements in subsidies and interest rates he has in view directed to this end.
§ Mr. MaclayThe White Fish Authority has approved applications for 74 new diesel trawlers for Aberdeen which suggests that the grants and loans available are providing substantial en-22W couragement for modernisation of the trawler fleet at that port. The rates of interest charged by the Authority compare favourably with the rates at which the industry could borrow from other sources and reflect the rates at which the Government itself can borrow.
