HC Deb 04 February 1960 vol 616 c156W
22. Mr. A. E. Cooper

asked the Minister of Education what is the estimated shortage of teachers for all grades in the county of Essex, and particularly within the borough of Ilford; and what steps are being taken to meet this deficiency.

Sir D. Eccles

Last month the authority was 443 teachers short of its quota of 11,013. I do not fix quotas for different parts of an authority's area, but I understand that Ilford was only a few teachers short of the number allocated by the authority. In addition to measures to increase the general supply of teachers, I shall continue to do all I can to help individual authorities to get their proper share of the available teachers.
