HC Deb 02 February 1960 vol 616 cc109-10W
47 Mr. Blackburn

asked the Prime Minister whether he will move to appoint a Select Committee to consider the pay and pensions of Ministers and backbench Members of the House.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I have been asked to reply.

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister informed my hon. Friend the Member for Wycombe (Mr. John Hall) on 24th November, that he had at present no intention of appointing a Committee of independent persons to review the pay of Ministers. I think it likely that his attitude would be the same to a review by a Select Committee such as is suggested by the hon. Member, although he would be the first to recognise the importance of these subjects.
