Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that air-raid shelters built 20 years ago still exist in towns and cities, and that they are both an eye-sore and dangerous to the general health of the people in the neighbourhood where they exist; and if he will take steps in consultation with local authorities to arrange for their removal as quickly as possible.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerIt remains the policy of the Government to preserve sound air-raid shelters as far as possible. If, however, a shelter is certified to be dangerous to health or there are other compelling grounds, I am always prepared to consider its removal.
