(2) how many hospital beds are still required in Lanarkshire to meet the 21W recommendations of the Montgomery Report that 70 per cent. of all babies should be born in hospital.
§ Mr. MaclayThe following are the percentages of births to mothers resident in Lanarkshire which took place in hospitals and nursing homes:
1956 1957 1958 1959 60 60 64 65 To meet the recommendations of the Montgomery Report about 130 additional obstetric and ante-natal beds are needed in Lanarkshire; 70 of these will be provided when the new Bellshill Maternity Hospital opens next year and a scheme for additional maternity beds at the Alexander Hospital, Coatbridge, is completed.
