HC Deb 12 December 1960 vol 632 cc9-10W
Mr. Owen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many welfare officers are employed in the service of the Forestry Commission: and in what areas they are so employed.

Mr. Soames

Local officers are responsible for the welfare of the industrial staff under their supervision. Since the industrial workers are widely scattered throughout Great Britain, a specialised welfare service would require a disproportionately large staff to be as effective as the present arrangements.
