§ 50. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Minister of Education how many children attending schools under his control can and cannot swim, respectively; and what steps he is taking to provide tuition in swimming for the latter.
§ Sir D. EcclesThe first part of the hon. and learned Member's Question could not be answered without a detailed inquiry, which I have not felt justified in making. Increased provision for teachers of physical education has been made at training colleges. Local education authorities are well aware of the importance of teaching children to swim and I am confident they will make the fullest possible use of the additional teachers.
