HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 cc178-9W
Lord Balniel

asked the Minister of Labour what requests he has made to industry to co-operate in maintaining employment by informing local employment exchanges of possible redundancies; and what responses he has received.

Mr. Heath

A booklet "Positive Employment Policies" was issued in June, 1958, to all firms employing more than 200 workers, suggesting that when redundancies can be foreseen, early contact should be made with the local employment exchange. The exchanges have been instructed to keep in close touch with employers and to make special arrangements for the registration and placing of workers affected when redundancies are imminent.

In general employers are co-operating well with the exchanges and the arrangements for dealing with redundancies are working smoothly.
