Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Power how many licensed mines are in production in the anthracite coalfield in South Wales; how many men are employed in them; and what was their total output in 1959.

Fifty-two, employing about 600 men. Their output in 1959 was 196,000 tons.

Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Power the figure of manpower recruitment and wastage in the coal mines of South Wales to the latest convenient date this year.

In the eight weeks ended 27th February, 1960, excluding inter-colliery transfers recruitment was 1,819 and wastage 2,622.

Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Power how many young persons between 16 and 18 years of age have been recruited into the coal mines of South Wales to the latest convenient date for this year.

In the eight weeks ended 27th February, 1960, 481 young persons under 18 were recruited. Separate figures are not available for the age group 16 to 18.
