HC Deb 27 November 1959 vol 614 cc78-9W
Captain Kerby

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that the receipt of a pension from a former employer does not disqualify a claimant from receiving unemployment benefit, and that many such pensioners apply for, and draw, unemployment benefit immediately following their retirement on a pension; and to what extent he separates such unemployed pensioners from those persons who are unemployed and not in receipt of a pension from a former employer when he compiles and issues his national unemployment figures and tables.

Mr. Heath

A person in receipt of a pension from a former employer may be entitled to receive unemployment benefit if he satisfies the statutory conditions, including that of being capable of and available for work. Such persons are not identified separately and are included in the unemployment figures in the normal way.
