Mr. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the Acts of Parliament from which he derives his responsibility for the well-being of Scottish industry.

Apart from numerous enactments relating to agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, including the Crofters Act, 1955, the following are the principal statutes conferring powers on the Secretary of State which have a direct bearing on industrial development.

• Distribution of Industry Act, 1945.
• New Towns Act, 1946.
• Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, 1947.
• Housing and Town Development (Scotland) Act. 1957.
