§ Mr. MarplesHighway authorities face a heavy task in converting 62,000 miles of classified roads to the new pattern of road markings laid down in the amending regulations of last May, and I am particularly anxious that the highest standard of accuracy and discretion should be attained in view of the need to secure universal respect for the markings and in the light of the penalties for disobedience. I naturally share the hon. Member's desire that the work should proceed as rapidly as possible, especially on main roads.
