HC Deb 03 November 1959 vol 612 c39W
Dr. Dickson Mabon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the numbers of persons over 65 years of age who were certified as being insane in the years 1928–58, inclusive.

Mr. Maclay

In 1928, 510 persons aged 65 or over at the time of admission were admitted to Scottish mental hospitals as certified patients. The corresponding figures for the last three years are 1,049 in 1956, 1,014 in 1957 and 939 in 1958. I regret that figures for all the intervening years could not be obtained without undue labour.
