HC Deb 03 November 1959 vol 612 c37W
91. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Works in what circumstances he closes parts of Hyde Park to the public from time to time; and if he will state the reasons which determine his decisions for temporary closure.

Lord John Hope

Parts of Hyde Park are temporarily closed from time to time for parades, reviews and sporting events. But as the Royal Parks are intended for general enjoyment, events of this kind are permitted only when they are traditionally associated with the Park or are considered consistent with its character and likely to be welcomed by most Park users.
