§ 58. Lady Tweedsmuirasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether he will publish annually the number of people who qualified for a pension during the previous twelve months and the cumulative total to date since the present National Insurance Scheme came into operation in 1948.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe figures for which my noble Friend asks are not available for the year 1948 in the middle of which the National Insurance Scheme came into full operation. But in Table 53 at the back of my Department's Annual Report for 1958 she will find for 1949 and each subsequent year, both 15W the number of retirement and contributory old-age pensions awarded in the year and the number in payment at its end. I hope these figures are those which she has in mind.
