Lieui.-Colonel Bromley-Davenportasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in view of the warning issued by his Department that such substances as stilboestrol and hexoestrol, used by farmers for the caponing of poultry and the fattening of livestock, could have a serious toxic effect on man even when small amounts are swallowed or inhaled, what steps are being taken to ensure that the warning issued to farmers is properly appreciated by all sections of the public.
§ Mr. John HareMy hon. and gallant Friend will appreciate that the warning to which he refers relates to the dangers which could arise from the presence of these substances on the farm and their handling in the course of administration to animals. The materials are not freely available to the public. For these reasons, the warning was primarily addressed to farmers, but the statement has been issued to the general as well as to the farming Press.
