§ Sir A. Spearmanasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what was the original rate, and what have been the changes in the rates, of National Insurance contributions since the introduction of the present scheme in 1946.
§ Miss PittFrom 30th September, 1946, the ordinary rates of weekly health and pensions contributions were increased to 4s. for an employed man and 3s. 4d. for an employed woman (of which the employee paid half) on the introduction of the pension rates established by the National Insurance Act, 1946. In addi- 99W tion throughout the period to July, 1948, unemployment insurance contributions were payable of Is. 8d. for an employed man and ls. 6d. for an employed woman, of which the employee also paid half.
