§ Sir A. Bossomasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied that wild rabbits, which might be subject to disease, are suitable for human consumption; and what consideration he is giving to prohibiting their sale as food.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithI have been asked to reply.
Certain diseases of wild rabbits, e.g. myxomatosis, render them unfit for human consumption. No special prohibition on their sale for human consumption is necessary as the general provisions of Section 8 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955, apply.
