HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 cc186-7W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the need of a jetty in the Isle of Eriskay for the fishing industry and general transport and development purposes; what financial assistance he is prepared to give to the Inverness County Council towards its cost; and if he will consult with the council, with a view to proceeding with the construction of the jetty in the current year.

Mr. N. Macpherson

A jetty to serve Eriskay is on the list of essential piers in the programme of Highland development. Inverness County Council has agreed that such a jetty is necessary, but it has not submitted any specific proposals to my right hon. Friend. The responsibility for the construction of a jetty is, of course, a matter in the first place for the county council.
