§ 13. Mr. John Hallasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in place of the existing concession whereby limited quantities of certain goods for personal use can be imported by a returning traveller resident in Great Britain free of duty, he will substitute a concession allowing the import under similar conditions of any goods intended for personal use irrespective of quantity or number of different items but limited to a fixed total amount in value.
§ Mr. ErrollNo. The long-established concessions apply only to small quantities of consumable goods, such as tobacco and spirits, which in general will be used up quickly. There is no justification for any equivalent relief for durable goods imported by residents of this country.
