HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 c168W
Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the President of the Board of Trade when he expects the Anglo-German trade agreement for 1959 to be signed.

Mr. Vaughan-Morgan

No arrangements have yet been made with Western Germany with regard to a trade agreement for 1959. In the meantime, imports of goods which are still restricted are being permitted up to one-quarter of the quotas for 1958.

Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many licences were issued in 1954 for the import of amusement machinery from West Germany; how many new licences were issued in 1955 and 1956; and how many applicants there are at present to be added to the list of licensees for 1959.

Mr. Vaughan-Morgan

The information is as follows:

1954 1955 1956
Number of Licences issued 13 13 16
of which to new applicants 13 5 6

There have so far been 24 applications for import licences in 1959, of which nine are from applicants who have not previously had a licence.
