HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 cc160-1W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will recommend to the appropriate advisory and other bodies concerned with the manufacture of tractors and combine harvesters that the batteries required by these vehicles should be standardised and interchangeable, in view of the resulting advantage to the agricultural industry.

Mr. John Hare

The British Standards Institute is at present considering this problem with a view to standardisation of the sizes of batteries as far as possible. There are a number of difficulties to be resolved, particularly in relation to the designing of the machines, but I hope that progress may be made. I am bringing this question to the notice of the Agricultural Engineers' Association.
