§ 60. Mr. John Hallasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he is aware that the British Overseas Airways Corporation is overstocked and 32W overstaffed; and what general directions he has issued to the Corporation on these points.
§ Mr. WatkinsonB.O.A.C. made a thorough examination of its engineering costs some time ago and concluded that there was scope for substantial economies in stockholding and staffing. The Corporation has therefore rightly sought to make the necessary adjustments as quickly as possible and has been in consultation with the trade unions for some months. No solution has yet been reached. It would be inappropriate to issue general directions on these commercial matters, and in any case B.O.A.C. itself is most anxious to secure its commercial future by reducing its overhead costs.
