HC Deb 17 March 1959 vol 602 c22W
84. Mr. P. Wells

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, in view of the failure to interest industrialists in acquiring or renting Her Majesty's Dockyard, Sheerness, as it exists at present, if he will consider the possibility of its conversion into a unit, or units, more appropriate to civilian industrial use.

Mr. T. G. D. Galbraith

We have in fact interested several industrialists in Sheerness dockyard, even though we have not yet been able to conclude an agreement with any one of them to take over the whole yard. Negotiations are still going on. In the meantime, we have considered the possibility of dividing the dockyard into units which might be attractive for a variety of civilian uses, and to this end we have instructed a firm of industrial estate agents to advertise the dockyard in smaller units.
