asked the President of the Board of Trade how many cinemas in the United Kingdom closed in the years 1956. 1957, and 1958, respectively.

For Great Britain, the numbers are 224 for 1956, 216 for 1957 and for 1958 a provisional estimate of 260.

53. Mr. E. Johnson

asked the President of the Board of Trade what were the number of cinema admissions and box office takings at cinemas in the United Kingdom in the years 1957 and 1958, respectively.

Admissions in 1958 are provisionally estimated to be at least 752 million, compared with 915 million in 1957; the provisional figure for box office takings in 1958 is £83 million, compared with £93 million in 1957.
