Mrs. Butlerasked the Minister of Health what was the total expenditure incurred by the Government in connection with poliomyelitis vaccination in 1957.
125W
§ Mr. Walker-SmithFigures for the calendar year are not available. The total expenditure falling upon the Exchequer in the financial year ended the 31st March, 1958, on purchasing and testing poliomyelitis vaccine for use in Great Britain was approximately £1½ million. The additional expenditure falling upon the Exchequer during that year by way of grant to local health authorities towards the costs incurred by them on vaccination against poliomyelitis is not separately known, since these costs are merged in other expenditure of the authorities.
