§ Mr. Walker-SmithIn 1957–58 8½ per cent. of the total capital expenditure on hospitals in England and Wales was in the Newcastle region. This is about one-third more than the region's share on a population basis. For 1958–59 the region's share is expected to be about 10 per cent. of the total or half as much again as would be allocated on a population basis; the ratios are likely to he about the same for 1960–61.
