HC Deb 03 March 1959 vol 601 c36W
Mr. Grey

asked the Minister of Health (1) what, as a percentage figure, is expected to be allocated to the Northern Region for hospital development in 1958–59 and 1960–61; and how will it compare with other regions;

(2) what, as a percentage figure was given to the Northern Region for hospital development in 1957–58; and how it compared with other regions in the country.

Mr. Walker-Smith

In 1957–58 8½ per cent. of the total capital expenditure on hospitals in England and Wales was in the Newcastle region. This is about one-third more than the region's share on a population basis. For 1958–59 the region's share is expected to be about 10 per cent. of the total or half as much again as would be allocated on a population basis; the ratios are likely to he about the same for 1960–61.
