§ Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the announcement by the Government of Canada that it would welcome a relaxation of currency restrictions imposed by the British Government on Britons visiting Canada in order to encourage reciprocity in tourism between Great Britain and Canada; and if he will now indicate what steps he plans to remove these disparities and restrictions.
Mr. AmoryI am not aware of any recent request by the Canadian Government for an increase in the United Kingdom tourist allowance, and have no further statement to make at present. The Government's policy remains to relax currency and trade restrictions whenever economic circumstances permit.
