HC Deb 04 June 1959 vol 606 cc40-1W
69. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on the growing practice of the Metropolitan Police of detaining persons for prolonged periods for questioning without any charges being made.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I cannot accept the hon. Gentleman's suggestion that such a practice is growing or any implication that the Metropolitan Police adopt a practice of detaining persons illegally.
