asked the Minister of Health, in view of Lord Boyd Orr's Report on the possible effect on children of the decline in the intake of welfare foods, whether the consumption of welfare foods in Tynemouth and Whitley Bay shows an upward or a downward trend.

The consumption of welfare foods in Tynemouth and Whitley Bay shows a downward trend except for welfare orange juice, the uptake of which has increased slightly in relation to those entitled to the benefit. These trends are broadly in line with those for England and Wales as a whole.
