HC Deb 02 June 1959 vol 606 cc19-20W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Prime Minister the estimated reservoir of strontium 90 in the stratosphere.

The Prime Minister

In a recent statement by the General Advisory Committee to the United States Atomic Energy Commission it was estimated that the stratosphere contains about 50 lb. of strontium 90. I am advised that an estimate of this order is not inconsistent with the evidence; but, as I explained in my statement of 28th April, accurate estimation is extremely difficult.
