§ Mr. John HareGrants and subsidies paid to agriculture in the United Kingdom for the financial years 1951–52 to 1958–59 inclusive totalled approximately £1,270 million. Figures are available only for complete financial years. The food subsidies borne by the former Ministry of Food prior to 1954–55 have been excluded.
